The Problem
After a long day off unpacking and moving my belongings into my dorm, I laid down on my bed and wanted to listen to music. I loaded my Spotify app and it stayed on a gray screen for about 5 minutes. Queueing up songs was painfully slow to the point it was frustrating to even listen to music. I decided to utilize the programming and IT knowledge I had accquired from 4 years of programming classes at my trade school.
Took more than 2 minutes to load
Took less than 5 seconds to load
I had figured out that hundreds of devices are all linked and synced up on the schools network. Making it so when loading Spotify it would cause your Spotify to load very slowly. I then utilized VPN split tunneling technology in order to isolate your Spotify on it’s own private network unable to communicate with the hundreds of devices on the college network.
